Overview of the academy
The practice of arthroscopic surgery has grown over the last 40 years. It has provided substantial benefits to patients and greater efficiency in the practice of surgery. Sports medicine has emerged as a new specialty, facilitated by arthroscopic surgery and demanded by more active generations of consumers. New technologies and materials have proliferated and they have contributed to more sophisticated procedures and precise surgical technique.
Purpose of the Orthopedic Academy
It is challenging for the sports medicine surgeon to balance the demands of surgery, follow-up patients and participate in ongoing education and training, particularly given the proliferation of new technologies and materials requiring ever newer technique.
The purpose of the Orthopedic Academy is to be an international learning network of sports medicine surgeons dedicated to training each other, learning about new “cutting edge” procedures and techniques and pursuing “evidence-based surgery.” The Orthopedic Academy will provide the opportunity for the top tier sports medicine surgeon to participate in collaborative research and review and develop new devices and techniques.
Guiding Principles
The Orthopedic Academy is comprised of a select number of top tier sports medicine surgeons with the following guiding principles:
- The Orthopedic Academy is a learning network of orthopedic surgeons (known as Members), with an interest in biologics, dedicated to learning from each other about best practices, new techniques and procedures
